A video showing a tense exchange between journalist Shivangi Shukla and an Uber driver over a 95-paise disagreement has sparked widespread online debate. The altercation, which occurred on the outskirts of Noida, has polarized opinions.

In the viral footage, the driver questions Shukla, asking, “Will you not pay the fare because you’re a journalist?” She responds, accusing him of being impolite, but he continues to address her as “didi.” As tensions escalate, Shukla suggests heading to a police station to resolve the issue, which the driver agrees to but only if she enters the location in the app.

Shivangi later shared her perspective, explaining that the issue began when she attempted to pay ₹129.95 but was short by 95 paise. According to her, the driver became aggressively demanding, only calming down when she began recording. She also alleged that the driver guilt-tripped her, saying, “You guys are rich, why not give us some?” Afterward, the driver accused her of intimidating him, prompting her to jump out of the car in self-defense.

Despite her version of events, many on social media sided with the driver, accusing Shukla of overreacting. Some argued she should have simply paid the 95 paise online, while others criticized her for using her journalist status to avoid responsibility.

The incident has raised questions about safety and accountability in the gig economy, highlighting the challenges both drivers and passengers face in these encounters.
