Mumbai: Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premiti Samiti, one of the leading NGOs working for the development of Undivided Dakshina Kannada District remembers it’s Patron, Guide and Philosopher, Late George Fernandes on his 91 st Birth Anniversary on 3rd June, 2021.

More than 50 members, well wishers of the Samiti and representatives of various Community Organizations have attended the Virtual Meeting.

Hiriadka Mohandas Hon. Gen. Secretary, welcomed the members and wellwishers. He briefed the importance of the day and invited all to participate in the discussion. Nithyanand D. Kotian, Vice President of the Samiti presented the success stories of Samiti’s activities during last two decades.

Tonse Jayakrishna  A. Shetty, Founder and present President in his key note address, paid rich tributes  to Late George Fernandes on the occasion of his 91st Birth Anniversary and recollected his proximity to late George Fernandes. He dedicated the success of the Samiti  in getting clearance to Night landing at Mangaluru Airport, upgradation of Mangaluru to Bengaluru railway lines to Broad gauge  and setting up of Thermal Power Plant in Nandikooru, to George Fernandes.

Jayakrishna A. Shetty, said that the unanimous decision taken at the Samiti to demand naming the Mangaluru International Airport  in the honour of George Fernandes is being actively followed up at the highest levels in New Delhi and also in Bengaluru. He requested all the Community Organizations to send representations to Chief Minister of Karnataka seeking recommendations to Civil Aviation Ministry, to name the Mangaluru International Airport, as George Fernandes International Airport.

Adv. Prakash L. Shetty, Founder President, recalled the contributions of George Fernandes in social and political life. He said, George is a person to be remembered for ever and he is person of principles with International Stature. Adv. Prakash Shetty endorsed/ supported the efforts of the Samiti to get the Mangaluru International Airport renamed after George Fernandes. He suggested to pass a necessary Special resolution, be passed for the purpose.

Kotian,  Chitrapu, Samiti’s one of senior members, Hon. Gen. Secretary, Vidyadayini Sabha, Devadas Kulal, President Kulala Sangha Mumbai, Ravi S. Devadiga, Hon. Secretary of the Samiti and present President of Devadiga Sangha Mumbai, Adv. R. M. Bhandary, present President of Bhandary Seva Sangha Mumbai, Dr. Surendra kumar Hegde, Present President of Kannada Kalavidara Mahaparishat, Maharastra, Prof. Shanker, Hon. Secretary of Samiti at Udupi, Tonse Shekar Poojary, Gujjarabettu, Hon Jt. Secretary of the Samiti  at Udupi, M. N. Karkera, one of Senior members of the Samiti and Chairman  of Billawara Association, Chembur Region, Smt. Surekha H. Devadiga, Hon. Jt. Treasurer of Devadiga Sangha Mumbai, Sri. Keshava Alva, a Social Actvist and others spoke and expressed their support and  said that it is very much essential remember the name of Gerorge Fernandes for long time by renaming the Mangalore Airport as GEORGE FERNANDES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

At the end of the Session, Shri. Jayakrishna A. Shetty, Founder and present President concluded with appreciation to all members, representatives of Community Organizations and well wishers for continued support to Samiti’s programmes from time to time. He requested for a Support Letter to be sent to CM of Karnataka requesting to legislate to rename the  Mangaluru International Airport in memory of Proud Son of the Soil under, Late George Fernandes copy to the Samiti.

He reiterated that Samiti shall pursued the proposal to rename Mangaluru International Airport  as George Fernandes International Airport, at all levels in New Delhi and at Bengaluru. The delegation of the Samiti shall  also meet the authorities, once Corona Pandemic sub sides.

The Hon. Gen. Secretary extended thanks to all participants in this memorable event.
