New Delhi: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, representing Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, used her floor time in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday to lavish praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while taking aim at the Congress leadership. Speaking during a debate on electoral reforms, she contrasted the Prime Minister’s governance and women-friendly initiatives with what she described as Opposition theatrics and entitlement.

Modi “hacked the people’s hearts”

During her speech, Kangana told the House, “Let me tell the Congress people that the Prime Minister does not hack EVMs, he has hacked the people’s hearts.” The remark was aimed at countering claims repeatedly raised by Rahul Gandhi, India’s Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on alleged vote manipulation.

She criticised Rahul Gandhi for highlighting voter list anomalies in Haryana, including the instance of a Brazilian woman whose photograph appeared multiple times in the electoral rolls. “I had expected a grand revelation from the leader of Opposition, but it came as a grand thud,” Kangana said, referring to the Gandhi family—Rahul, Priyanka, and Sonia—whom she described as “steeped in entitlement.”

Apology for misuse of personal images

Kangana also addressed a controversy involving the display of the Brazilian voter’s photograph in Parliament by Congress MPs. Without naming her, she said, “As a woman, I want to say every woman is entitled to her dignity. Yet they flashed her image without any evidence. That is a violation of personal rights. On behalf of this House, I apologise to her.”

She clarified that the woman in question, Larissa Nery, had never visited India and had previously stated she was unaware her photograph had been used in connection with Indian elections.

Highlighting Modi’s women-friendly initiatives

Kangana contrasted the Opposition’s approach with the government’s initiatives for women since Modi’s first term. She urged MPs to consider this contrast while evaluating debates on electoral reforms and other policy discussions.

In her first year as a Parliamentarian, Kangana has frequently used public platforms to praise the Prime Minister. Earlier this year, she told Hautterfly magazine that Modi is “the biggest feminist I have ever met,” adding, “He has never shown off that he has done these many things for women. He is a silent feminist.”

During a public event in Himachal Pradesh, she referred to Modi as “God incarnate,” and at a fashion event in October, she described him as “the ultimate showstopper” for his awareness of political, social, and industrial issues.

A consistent champion of the Prime Minister

Kangana’s statements in Parliament and public events underline her positioning as a consistent supporter and cheerleader of PM Modi. Her speeches frequently juxtapose his leadership with what she portrays as the shortcomings of the Opposition, particularly the Congress party, thereby reinforcing her pro-government stance in her maiden term as an MP.
