On Wednesday, SE Sudhindra, Chairman of the State Biofuels Development Board, emphasized the critical role of sustainable technologies in advancing the state’s biofuel upgradation and commercialization efforts. He made these remarks during the inauguration of a two-day international conference on recent research developments in sustainable technology. The conference, which took place at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) South Campus, was organized in collaboration with the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Germany) and the Indian Institute of Engineering.

Sudhindra highlighted that Karnataka has been a pioneer in the biofuel sector, becoming the first state in India to adopt and implement the national biofuel policy of 2009. The state has consistently been at the forefront of biofuel promotion initiatives and has also placed special emphasis on integrating sustainable technologies and practices within the biofuel industry. Sudhindra assured that the sector would see significant technological advancements in the coming months, with the State Biofuels Development Board focusing on promoting innovative projects like biomass briquettes, biopellets, biodiesel, 2G ethanol, compressed biogas, and green hydrogen.

During the recent global investors’ meet, Invest Karnataka 2025, Sudhindra noted that representatives from the State Biofuels Board participated actively, sharing the state’s ambitious goal of attracting investments amounting to one lakh billion dollars for biofuel activities, leveraging new sustainable technologies. He also mentioned that the state government had unveiled a new biofuel policy aimed at encouraging global investments in the sector. Additionally, Priyank Kharge, the State Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, IT, and BT Minister, is set to meet with experts and stakeholders next week to discuss strategies for further boosting investments and formulating an updated biofuel policy. The event was attended by key figures such as Shivashankar L, Managing Director of the State Biofuel Board, Lohith BR, Deputy Conservator of Forests, and Dayanand GR, Planning Advisor.
