Ahmedabad: Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged that the Gujarat social media accounts of the Aam Aadmi Party were blocked just a day before crucial local body elections, targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party over the development.
AAP claims Facebook, Instagram pages blocked
Taking to social media platform X, Arvind Kejriwal questioned the move, asking why the BJP was “scared” of his party’s growing presence in Gujarat.
The allegation follows a post by Gujarat AAP unit chief Isudan Gadhvi, who claimed that the party’s Facebook and Instagram pages in the state had been shut down.
Gadhvi said the platforms had gained significant traction in recent weeks, drawing over 8 crore views in the past month.
‘Voice of people being suppressed’
According to Isudan Gadhvi, the social media pages had become an important channel for connecting with voters and highlighting local issues.
He alleged that the blocking of these accounts was an attempt to suppress public voice ahead of the elections.
“If the BJP had done work for the people, there would be no need for such actions,” he said, adding that voters would respond to what he described as “dictatorship”.
Political tensions escalate ahead of polls
The controversy comes on the eve of civic body elections in Gujarat, intensifying the political rivalry between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The two parties have already been engaged in a political face-off, particularly after recent developments involving AAP leaders at the national level.
No official response yet
There has been no official confirmation from Meta or election authorities regarding the alleged blocking of the accounts. The BJP has also not issued a formal response to the allegations at the time of writing.
Conclusion
The claims by Arvind Kejriwal have added to the charged political atmosphere ahead of the Gujarat civic polls. Whether the alleged social media restrictions will impact campaigning or voter sentiment remains to be seen.
