Kejriwal not invited for new metro inaugural

New Delhi: Lashing out at Centre and DMRC for not inviting chief minister Kejriwal for the inauguration of the new Faridabad Metro line, Saurabh Bhardawaj, AAP legislator said, “The Delhi government and Centre are equal partners in the DMRC in terms of equity. Any decision to extend the Metro outside the NCT needs approval from the Delhi government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi often talks about co-operative federalism. But the decision to not to invite the Delhi CM shows he is afraid of sharing credit with others.”

AAP leaders urged the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to avoid petty politics. The Centre and the organisers have set off a ‘wrong precedent’ by not inviting the chief minister, accused Bhardawaj AAP legislator from Greater Kailash and former Delhi transport minister.

Delhi government spokesperson Nagendra Sharma tweeted stating: “DMRC is a shining example of professionalism in govt sector & has an unmatched reputation. It shld avoid petty politics (sic).” Sources said the Delhi government could issue a show cause notice to DMRC over the issue.

However, Delhi Metro spokesperson refused to comment on the controversy. Around three months back, the chief minister had jointly flagged off the ITO-Mandi House Metro service jointly with union ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Earlier this year, Kejriwal and the Centre got into a tiff over invitation to the Republic Day parade. He had accused the Centre of breaching protocol by not inviting a former chief minister.
