New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday strongly criticised US President Donald Trump following the deaths of three Indian sailors in an attack off the Oman coast, accusing him of being responsible for the loss of Indian lives.
In a sharply worded social media post, Kejriwal condemned the incident and alleged that the United States was accountable for the deaths of the Indian crew members.
“Donald Trump, you will be held accountable for the Indian lives lost. You are a cowardly, cold-blooded murderer,” Kejriwal wrote on X.
Questions Centre’s response
Sharing a video message on social media, Kejriwal also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Centre had failed to respond strongly to the deaths of Indian nationals.
“It is unfortunate that PM Modi remains silent, but soon, India will have a strong Prime Minister who will make you pay for your misdeeds,” he said.
The remarks come amid increasing political reactions over the deaths of Indian sailors during incidents involving commercial vessels in the Gulf region.
Three Indian sailors killed
According to reports, a Palau-flagged oil tanker, MT Settebello, was struck by US forces in the Gulf of Oman on June 10. The vessel reportedly had 24 Indian sailors on board, of whom three lost their lives.
US authorities reportedly claimed that the tanker had violated a naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports.
Earlier, another Palau-flagged tanker, MT Marivex, carrying 24 Indian crew members, came under attack on June 8. All sailors on board were rescued safely.
A third vessel, the Guinea-Bissau-flagged MT Jalveer, was reportedly struck on June 11 while carrying 20 Indian seafarers. No fatalities were reported from that incident.
Political reactions intensify
The deaths of the Indian sailors have triggered concerns about the safety of Indian seafarers operating in conflict-prone maritime regions, particularly amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Opposition leaders have demanded greater clarity from the Centre regarding the circumstances surrounding the incidents and the measures being taken to protect Indian citizens working aboard international vessels.
The government has not yet issued a detailed statement addressing Kejriwal’s remarks. Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor developments in the region as concerns remain over maritime security and the safety of commercial shipping routes.
