A court in Kerala‘s Trivandrum has sentenced Greeshma to death for the murder of her lover, Sharon Raj, whom she poisoned to end their romantic relationship. The ruling was issued by the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court. Greeshma was also handed a 10-year prison sentence for kidnapping and attempting to murder Sharon (under Section 364 IPC), along with a 5-year sentence for causing the disappearance of evidence (Section 201 IPC).
In the same case, Greeshma’s maternal uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was convicted under Section 201 IPC for destroying evidence and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Her mother, Sindhukumari, was acquitted of all charges.
The court found that Greeshma invited Sharon to her home and served him an Ayurvedic drink laced with poison, leading to his death. The evidence also revealed that her mother and uncle helped conceal the poison bottle, obstructing the investigation.
Greeshma has been convicted under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 364 (kidnapping or abducting to murder), 328 (causing hurt by poison), 302 (punishment for murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence). The case has drawn widespread attention due to the shocking nature of the crime.
