RIYADH/DUBAI: Ziyad Basheer, a 36-year-old Indian expatriate from Idukki, Kerala, died following a tragic AC compressor explosion in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A resident of Manjali and native of Randupalam, Thodupuzha, Ziyad had been working as a private driver for a Saudi national for the past seven years.
The accident occurred around 2pm on Friday, leaving Ziyad with severe burns. He was admitted in critical condition to Al Mouwasat Hospital, near Exit 9 in Riyadh, where he battled for life in the ICU for two days before succumbing to his injuries at 2:10pm on Sunday.
His body was shifted to the hospital morgue, and burial is scheduled at the Naseem Al Salam Mausoleum in Riyadh on Monday. He leaves behind his wife and daughter, who reside in Kerala.
