Neerkunnam: A surprise visit to a government school by an IAS officer in Kerala, has earned him praise on social media photos of him sharing the mid-day meal with students went viral.
With the former director of education at the Zila level K P Lathika in tow, District Collector Alappuzha, S Suhas paid a surprise visit to Sree Devi Vilasam (SDV) UP government school during lunchtime on June 20, to assess the food being served via the mid-day meal programme.
Post his assessment, the IAS officer shared a meal with the students of the school, photos of which were posted on his Facebook page.
In the menu for the day, they were served Mor (Haldi Lassi), Vellarika Kootaan (Cucumber Sabzi) and Urulakizhangu Mezhukuperati (Potato Fries) with rice.
IAS officer Suhas said that considering that the SDV school had the largest student population, he had been there to assess the organisation of the mid-day meal programme and the nutritional value and hygiene of the food being served to the children.
He also paid a visit to the school’s library and computer lab where the headmaster and PDA informed him about the space limitations.
