The Kerala Police have issued a warning to internet users about the rising prevalence of fake shopping websites that impersonate major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.
As these legitimate sites kick off their annual festival sales, scammers are seizing the opportunity to lure consumers with attractive offers through deceptive social media advertisements. In response, the state’s cyber police have already taken action to remove 155 fraudulent websites identified during their investigations.
Key Advice from Kerala Police:
- Verify Authenticity: Before placing any orders or transferring money, ensure the legitimacy of websites offering significant discounts.
- Examine Website Addresses: Carefully check the URL of any website you visit.
- Avoid Unverified Links: Do not click on links sent via WhatsApp, SMS, or social media to access e-commerce sites.
The police have also encouraged victims of online scams to report incidents immediately by calling 1930, stating that prompt reporting can enhance the chances of recovering lost funds.
