Thiruvananthapuram: A tragic incident occurred in Kottayam, Kerala, where a woman named Jessy was found dead in a gorge about 60 kilometres from her home. Her NRI children had been unable to contact her for several days, prompting them to raise an alarm. Following the discovery, her estranged husband, Kappadakunnel Sam George, was arrested for allegedly smothering her to death.
Background of the couple
The couple had been living separately under the same roof in Kanakkary village for nearly a decade. Jessy resided on the ground floor, while Sam occupied the first floor. Their marital discord had been ongoing, and Jessy had filed a petition for maintenance, which was still pending in court.
Sam, a former IT professional who had worked in Bengaluru and the Middle East, had pursued a post-graduate course in tourism and travel management at Kottayam’s MG University. Earlier, he had brought a woman to the house for a yoga course, but Jessy had objected to the arrangement. Police allege that Sam killed Jessy after she questioned him about his relationships.
Legal proceedings
The police investigation led to the arrest of Sam George. The case has drawn attention due to the estranged couple living under one roof, ongoing court disputes, and the involvement of NRI children who raised the alarm. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
