Jinu, the mother of Shannet, remains stuck in Kuwait, unable to return for her daughter’s funeral. Her prolonged absence has left the grieving family in distress, as her return is crucial for the last rites.
According to reports, Jinu had been held by Kuwaiti authorities for over six weeks. Her arrest followed a deceitful recruitment by a job agency based in Pathanamthitta. Despite efforts by Kerala MPs to intervene, there has been no breakthrough.
Jinu’s husband revealed that she was taken to Kuwait around two and a half months ago, lured by a promise of employment as a caregiver for a young child. The offered monthly salary was ₹40,000. However, once she arrived, the reality was starkly different—she was tasked with managing the affairs of an entire household and received only ₹27,000.
Frustrated, she reached out to the agency, who then moved her to a different employer. During this time, she also contacted a Malayali association in Kuwait. With their assistance, she approached the Indian Embassy and completed the formalities to return home.
She was expected to land in Kerala last Monday. But before departure, she was unexpectedly detained, reportedly over concerns linked to rising COVID-19 infections and conflict situations in the region.
Her husband further added that at least 35 women from Kerala are being held under similar circumstances—victims of exploitation by fraudulent recruitment agencies.
