Thiruvananthapuram: A shocking case of serial matrimonial fraud has come to light in Kerala after Reshma Chandrasekharan, a 30-year-old woman from Ernakulam, was arrested in the capital city just two hours before what would have been her 14th marriage. Aryanad police have now formed a dedicated team to trace her past activities and uncover the truth behind her multiple marriages.
Reshma, mother of a two-year-old, was all set to marry Aneesh C, a 35-year-old panchayat ward member from Parandodu, when he discovered suspicious documents in her bag, including a wedding card from another recent marriage. Alarmed, he informed the police, leading to her arrest.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Reshma is well-educated, having completed her graduation in Sanskrit at Sree Sankaracharya University in Kalady and postgraduation at CMS College, Kottayam. Her first marriage was reportedly in 2014, during her college years. Since then, she allegedly married multiple men from Kollam, Vaikom, Thodupuzha, Angamaly, and other regions.
The investigation also found that she contacted Aneesh via a matrimonial site, fabricated a story about being adopted, and claimed her mother was against the marriage. In reality, her mother resides with a man from Valakom, who fathered Reshma’s child and was reportedly unaware of her fraudulent past.
Aneesh, though financially impacted after spending ₹7.5 lakh on wedding arrangements, expressed relief at discovering the truth just in time.
Authorities plan to seek police custody to confirm the number of marriages and understand Reshma’s motive.
