Three women from Kerala—Parukutty, Maya, and Darly—faced a harrowing experience after getting lost in a dense forest while searching for their cows. Stranded overnight, they took refuge on a rock, surrounded by a herd of elephants until 2 a.m. After 14 hours, forest officials located and rescued them approximately 6 km inside the forest in Arakkamuthi.

The ordeal began Thursday afternoon when Maya called her husband to report their situation, mentioning her phone’s battery was almost depleted. A search operation involving forest officials, police, fire brigade, and local volunteers was initiated but had to be paused at night. Rescuers resumed their efforts Friday morning, eventually finding the women based on their description of a nearby rock and check dam.

The women’s families expressed immense relief following their safe return.
