Kerala: Police has taken firm action by registering 54 cases related to the spread of communally instigative content through social media following the recent blasts at a Christian prayer gathering near Kalamassery in Kochi. The police have embarked on a thorough investigation to curtail the distribution of harmful content and bring the culprits to justice.
The cases have been distributed across various districts, with Malappuram topping the list with 26 cases, followed by 15 in Ernakulam and five in Thiruvananthapuram. Thrissur City and Kottayam have reported two cases each, while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Kozhikode Rural each have one case.
In their pursuit of the responsible individuals, the police have uncovered a multitude of fake profiles that have been instrumental in propagating posts designed to fuel communal animosity. To further their efforts, the police have made formal requests to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to identify the IP addresses associated with these fake profiles.
The cyber cell in Kerala is operating around the clock to track down and deal with these profiles and posts. This robust response by law enforcement demonstrates the commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state, particularly in the wake of incidents that could potentially disrupt communal harmony.
The swift actions taken by Kerala Police underscore the importance of maintaining responsible online behavior and curbing the spread of content that can incite hatred and division in society. Such cases serve as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are taking cybercrimes seriously and are determined to protect the welfare and security of the public.
