
KIIT Suspends Staff After Misconduct Allegations During Protests
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar has swiftly acted following allegations of misconduct by its staffers during protests over the tragic death of a 20-year-old Nepali student. The incident, which took place on Monday, sparked outrage across the university community and beyond.
The controversy erupted after a video went viral showing two staff members misbehaving with Nepali students during the protests. In response, KIIT issued a public apology and confirmed the suspension of three officials, including two hostel staff and a security personnel, who were implicated in the misconduct.
The university’s statement expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing that the actions of the staff were unacceptable and against the institution’s values. “We are extremely appalled by the untoward incident that took place on 16th February 2025. The comments made by two of our officers were extremely irresponsible,” KIIT said, reaffirming that the staff’s actions were personal and not reflective of the university’s stance.
KIIT assured the public that the suspended staff members had apologized for their actions, and the university extended its heartfelt apologies to the students and the people of Nepal. It also reiterated its commitment to inclusivity and respect for all students, regardless of nationality. Finally, the university appealed to its Nepali students to resume their academic activities without further delay.
