New Delhi: Following a series of provocative comments in his speeches, Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel has been booked in Surat under the charges of sedition over alleged remarks on ‘killing cops’.
While addressing a meeting in Surat on October 3, the youth Patel leader said, “Kill 2-5 cops but no Patel should die. If you have so much courage…then go and kill a couple of policemen. Patels never commit suicide.” He said this in regard to a local youth, Vipul Desai, who had announced that he would commit suicide in support of the agitation.
However, later, Hardik clarified that he meant no harm. The Gujarat Police then said that the young leader’s provocative and insensible statement regarding killing cops violated limits of law.
On Saturday, Hardik was detained by police on his way to Khandheri cricket stadium in Rajkot ahead of the India-South Africa One Day International. He had threatened to stage a protest at the stadium.
Hardik and the police have come in direct confrontation ever since the August 25 rally in Ahmedabad. Hardik has gunned for action against cops for allegedly killing nine Patidars in the post-rally violence.
