In a startling incident that unfolded late Monday night, a family from Cheruvancheri in Kerala’s Kannur district had a terrifying encounter with one of the world’s most venomous snakes. The household of local resident Sreejith was left shaken after they discovered a massive king cobra concealed beneath their young son’s battery-operated toy car.
The shocking discovery was made inside the family’s residence. According to reports, a member of the household turned on the light in one of the rooms and was stunned to spot the reptile coiled quietly beneath the child’s play vehicle. Fortunately, the child was not playing near the toy at that time, averting what could have been a disastrous situation.
Reacting swiftly, the family refrained from approaching the snake and immediately notified the Forest Department. Wildlife officials rushed to the scene and successfully captured the dangerous serpent without incident. The snake was later safely relocated to its natural habitat.
Locals in the area were left both stunned and alarmed by the incident, highlighting growing concerns about human-wildlife interactions in semi-urban and rural pockets of Kerala. Experts say the presence of king cobras in residential zones may be linked to habitat disturbances and monsoon-driven movements.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during the rainy season, and to check dark or cluttered corners of homes and yards. The Forest Department also urged the public to contact trained personnel in case of any wildlife sightings.
