Mumbai: On Sunday, March 22, Indians came out onto their balconies and clapped in appreciation for all those who are on the frontlines in the battle against the fast-spreading coronavirus (COVID-19) in response to the Prime Minister’s call. However, while the PM had asked the public to remain indoors on Sunday from 7 AM to 9 PM, many were seen roaming the streets at 5 PM, dancing and beating various vessels and playing various ornaments.

Visuals from many parts of the country flooded social media where large groups of people are seen out on the streets, violating the call for social distancing.

Founder of Biocon, the biopharmaceutical giant, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, took to Twitter on Sunday, to lambast those who were seen dancing in groups on the streets during the Janta Curfew.

“This is NOT what our PM @narendramodi ji wanted. Don’t they understand what social distancing means?” she wrote. She also posted a video of a large group of people who came out of their homes to clap and show their gratitude to all the doctors and other medical professionals risking their lives to treat the infected patients.

Meanwhile, Shaw posted a video of herself ringing a bell, with the caption, “My small applause for our saviours of the COVID19 outbreak.”

So far, India has reported 415 positive COVID-19 cases and seven deaths.
