THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has suspended two employees for gross misconduct and endangering passenger safety.

One of the suspended individuals, K B Sam, Assistant Transport Officer at the Pathanapuram unit, was penalised for illegally reinstating a dismissed driver. V Ragesh Kumar, the driver in question, had earlier been terminated for causing a fatal accident at Bakery Junction, Thiruvananthapuram, which claimed the life of a student on May 12. Despite a suspension order issued by the Executive Director (Vigilance), Sam facilitated Ragesh’s return to service after a corrective training session—without proper clearance or authorisation.

In a separate incident, contract driver Shaji Kumar Kandoth, of the Thalassery unit, was caught using a mobile phone while driving a KSRTC bus. The violation was filmed by passengers and shared on social media, leading to a swift inquiry by the KSRTC vigilance department and subsequent suspension.

In an official statement, KSRTC reaffirmed its commitment to passenger and staff safety, stressing that disciplinary actions will continue to be enforced strictly to uphold operational standards.
