Indian motorsport celebrated a landmark achievement on Saturday as Kush Maini became the first Indian to win a Formula 2 race in Monaco, claiming a commanding Sprint Race victory for DAMS Lucas Oil on the historic Monte Carlo circuit.
Delivering a flawless lights-to-flag drive, Maini seized the opportunity from pole position—granted via the reverse grid rule after qualifying 10th for the feature race. The 24-year-old BWT Alpine F1 reserve driver showed immense composure across 30 high-pressure laps, fending off competitors on one of the sport’s most iconic and challenging tracks.
This marked Maini’s first-ever Formula 2 victory and his maiden podium of the 2025 season, making the moment all the more special. An emotional Maini stood proudly as the Indian national anthem played during the podium ceremony, declaring, “P1 and first Indian to win at Monaco. It’s a dream come true. We keep believing.”
Maini credited his team DAMS and long-time supporters for the win. Indian business magnate Gautam Singhania was also spotted celebrating the victory in the pit lane, highlighting the role of JK Racing and TVS Racing, both of which have backed Maini since his junior career.
After a difficult start to the season, the Monaco win serves as a timely morale boost. Maini now sets his sights on the upcoming feature race in Monaco and the next leg in Barcelona.
India’s motorsport journey continues to accelerate — and Kush Maini is leading the charge.
