THRISSUR: The Palakkad Range Forest Officer has served a formal notice to A A Muhammad Hashim, the INTUC Young Workers Council’s state general secretary, directing him to appear for questioning on July 21 at 10:30 AM. The move is part of an inquiry into his complaint alleging that Union Minister Suresh Gopi has been frequently seen wearing a pendant made from a leopard’s tooth.

Hashim had filed the complaint on June 16, shortly after rapper Vedan (Hirandas Murali) was arrested under similar charges—allegedly for possessing and wearing a leopard tooth pendant.

The forest department is now verifying Hashim’s claims, and may summon Minister Suresh Gopi to record his statement if further evidence supports the allegation. Officials are reportedly examining photographs and public appearances where the pendant in question may be visible.

Under the Wildlife Protection Act, possession of body parts of protected species, including leopard teeth, is a serious offense. Conviction could lead to imprisonment ranging from three to seven years along with a fine.

This high-profile case has stirred debate on selective enforcement and equal accountability under wildlife conservation laws.
