A 45-second viral video showing men with liquor bottles near the Shivalik Complex on ISKCON Cross Road has triggered widespread concern. The footage, shared on social media, captured the men indulging in public drinking, an act that goes against the law in Gujarat, a dry state.
Following the video’s circulation, senior officials from the Satellite Police Station launched an investigation into the matter. The incident, which unfolded just meters away from the Satellite Police Station, has raised significant concerns about the current state of law and order in the region.
In response to the growing public outcry, police authorities have vowed to take stricter action. Senior officials have urged local stations to implement tougher measures to ensure that those violating the law face consequences, emphasizing the need for criminal elements to respect the authority of law enforcement.
This incident comes at a time when Gujarat is already dealing with heightened scrutiny over liquor-related offenses. Recently, the Gujarat State Municipal Corporation (SMC) busted a Holi-Dhuleti party, seizing liquor worth ₹33 lakh from a Surat farmhouse. Moreover, the state has seen large-scale seizures of illegal alcohol, with over 30 lakh IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) bottles and 2 lakh litres of country-made liquor confiscated in just one year.
The authorities are now under pressure to ensure stricter enforcement of the state’s dry laws, while public opinion demands swift action to prevent further lawlessness.
