In a rare display of compassion beyond routine duty, police personnel from the PGI police station in Lucknow donated blood to save the life of a Class 9 student who was critically injured in a road accident, even as investigators concluded that the incident was accidental and not a case of foul play.
The injured teenager, identified as Mansi, is undergoing treatment at the Apex Trauma Centre, SGPGI after sustaining serious injuries in the crash. Doctors had urgently sought blood transfusion to stabilise her condition.
Responding immediately, PGI station house officer Dhirendra Kumar Singh and constable Shivam rushed to the hospital and donated two units of blood without delay.
“This was not just a duty but a humanitarian responsibility,” Lucknow Police said in an official statement, adding that the timely blood donation played a crucial role in stabilising the girl’s condition and highlighted the police’s role as community partners.
Accident ruled out, no foul play found
Parallel to the medical emergency, police conducted a detailed investigation into the incident, which occurred on Christmas Day near Neelmatha on Shaheed Path. Mansi, a resident of Ashiana, was found critically injured and bleeding on the roadside and was placed on ventilator support at SGPGI for five days.
While the girl’s friends initially reported it as a road accident, her mother later alleged attempted murder, prompting a thorough probe.
Police said investigators examined CCTV footage from nearby areas, recorded the statement of a car driver who was following the motorcycle, spoke to the person who admitted the girl to hospital, and took testimonies from her friends who were riding with her. A technical inspection of the motorcycle and a detailed site survey were also carried out.
“Preliminary findings suggest that the motorcycle lost balance at a sharp turn and hit the divider,” police said, ruling out any criminal intent.
Act of humanity praised
Senior officials noted that while investigations followed due process, the immediate focus of officers on saving the girl’s life stood out. The incident has drawn appreciation from residents, who praised the police for stepping in during a critical moment.
As Mansi continues her recovery, the episode has reinforced a powerful message — that beyond enforcement and investigation, empathy and timely action can make a life-saving difference
