Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections: Latest Updates

New Delhi: People in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are casting their votes today in the second phase of the assembly elections. The main fight is between two political parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is currently in charge, and in Chhattisgarh, the Congress is trying to stay in power. Voting started at 7 a.m. in Madhya Pradesh and will continue until 6 p.m. In Chhattisgarh, voting began at 8 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m.

The results of the elections, along with those in Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, will be announced on December 3. Keep an eye out for more updates on the election proceedings.

Madhya Pradesh:

  • Voting is underway for the 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m.
  • There are 64,626 polling booths, with 17,032 categorized as sensitive.
  • The total registered voters are 5.59 crore, including 2.87 crore males, 2.71 crore females, and 1,292 from the third gender.
  • A total of 2,533 candidates, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Faggan Singh Kulaste, and Prahlad Patel, are in the fray.
  • Prominent candidates include Kamal Nath, Digvijaya Singh’s son Jaivardhan Singh, and Arjun Singh’s son Ajay Singh.
  • The main parties in the fray are Congress, BJP, Aam Aadmi Party, BSP, and SP.

Chhattisgarh:

  • The second and final phase of voting for the remaining 70 seats in the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly is ongoing.
  • Over 18,800 polling stations have been set up, and voting will continue until 5 p.m.
  • Prominent candidates include Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deputy CM T.S. Singh Deo, and BJP state president Arun Sao.
  • A total of 958 candidates, including eight state ministers and four MPs, are contesting.
  • The state witnessed a bipolar contest between the BJP and Congress.
  • The counting for both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh elections, along with Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, will be held on December 3.
