Mahakaleshwar Temple Celebrates Holi With Devotion Amid Tight Security
The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, celebrated Holi with traditional fervor and deep devotion. The festival began with the morning Bhasma Aarti, where herbal gulal was offered to Lord Mahakal, along with a garland made of makhana. However, due to strict security measures, devotees were not allowed to carry gulal inside the temple this year.
Safety Measures Post 2024 Incident
Following a fire accident in 2024 that injured priests and temple staff, authorities have tightened security. While devotees participated in Darshan and Aarti, gulal distribution was restricted. The Bhasma Aarti included the offering of herbal gulal only to Lord Mahakal.
Time-Honored Rituals Continue
On Thursday, gulal was also presented to other temple deities, including Lord Shri Chandramouleshwar, Shri Koteshwar-Shri Rameshwar, and Shri Veerbhadra. The Holika Dahan ceremony was performed by priests, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, as narrated in Prahlad and Holika’s legend.
Faith Remains Unshaken
Despite the absence of vibrant Holi colors, the devotion of thousands of worshippers remained strong. The temple echoed with prayers and chants, reinforcing the spiritual essence of Holi’s divine significance.
