New Delhi: A Maharashtra Congress leader has written a letter to the President of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi suggesting him that a non-Gandhi member must be the party chief.

Maharashtra Youth Congress Spokesperson Anand Dubey in his letter, has stated that he welcomed Rahul Gandhi’s decision to quit as the party chief and suggested that it was time for a non-Gandhi member to take charge.

Rahul Gandhi on May 25, had tendered his resignation to the Congress Working Committee, citing moral responsibility for the humiliating defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, the Congress party was unwilling to accept his resignation. But the letter from Anand Dubey welcoming Rahul Gandhi’s decision to step down from the party chief post, has raised eyebrows.

Times Now has quoted him stating that leaders from other parties usually quit their posts after they are unable to deliver a win for the party and the same principle should also be applied in Congress.

Several Congress party leaders including AICC secretaries Virender Rathore, Anil Choudhury, Rajesh Dharmani and Foreign Cell Secretary Virender Vashist resigned last week after Congress MP Vivek Tankha, who stepped down from all the party posts.
