Mumbai, Maharashtra: In an effort to establish direct connectivity between the Khar Subway and Bandra Terminus on the eastern side, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed the construction of a flyover. Here are the key details about the upcoming flyover project:
Need for the Flyover: Khar, situated at the core of the western suburbs, witnesses a significant influx of vehicles daily heading towards Bandra Terminus. However, the lack of seamless connectivity between the western part of Khar and the terminus in the east poses a challenge. The existing connectivity is restricted to narrow minor roads and the Khar Subway, which is prone to waterlogging during monsoons, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Flyover Overview: The proposed flyover will originate from the western end of the Khar Subway, directly connecting to Bandra Terminus while passing over densely populated residential areas. The project will be executed in two phases: the first phase will establish connectivity between the Khar Subway and Bandra Terminus, while the second phase will extend the connectivity to the Western Express Highway (WEH), enabling motorists from the western side to seamlessly transition to the highway in the east.
Cost and Progress: The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2,400 crore, with the BMC having initiated the tendering process. The construction is expected to span 42 months.
Statement from Administration: An official from the Bridges department of the BMC emphasized the importance of the project in alleviating congestion issues. Anticipating an increase in vehicular traffic in areas like Khar and Santacruz over time, the project aims to provide direct connectivity to both Bandra Terminus and the WEH.
