As Japan’s annual cherry blossom fervor sweeps the globe, Mumbai’s culinary scene is also abuzz with Sakura-inspired menus, offering patrons a taste of the famed Hanami festival.

Last year, Japan witnessed a staggering influx of 1.9 million visitors flocking to witness the Cherry Blossom trees in full bloom, according to the Japan National Tourism Organisation. This revered festival, marking the onset of Spring, entices travel enthusiasts worldwide, with the Sakura season typically beginning in March and reaching its zenith in April.

In Japan, the cherry blossom season sees vendors peddling a myriad of foods and beverages inspired by the festival, including iconic dishes like Hanami Dango, cherry blossom raindrop cake, and more, adding to the allure of sakura watching or Hanami.

Bringing the Sakura fun to Mumbai, select pan-Asian restaurants have curated special menus to immerse diners in the spirit of the season. Kyma tantalizes taste buds with an array of Japanese delights, complemented by sugar-free cocktails like Sake Lychee Martini and Sparkling Sakura. Sesame by Hyatt Centric Juhu has adorned its space with a magnificent sakura tree, offering delectable treats like Salmon Tataki and Scallop Ceviche. Meanwhile, Hakkasan presents a unique Plum Blossom menu, featuring traditional Chinese fare with bold flavors.

Delving into desserts, Kyma serves up the viral Raindrop Cake adorned with strawberry and cherry blossom, alongside traditional Japanese treats like daifuku. For those unable to travel to Japan, Mumbai’s Vikhroli area provides a picturesque backdrop, with hundreds of cherry blossom trees adorning the Eastern Express Highway.

While the spectacle may lure pedestrians onto the footpath for a closer look, caution is advised due to the presence of fast-moving vehicular traffic along the expressway. Nonetheless, Mumbai’s Sakura season promises a delightful blend of culinary delights and natural beauty, echoing the fleeting magic of Spring.
