Thane: A 56-year-old man from Navi Mumbai was allegedly defrauded of Rs 90,000 by online scammers under the guise of providing an instant loan. The victim, who works for a logistics company, was seeking a loan for his daughter’s education when he came across a Facebook post advertising loans available within two hours.
After applying for the loan online on November 8, the victim received a call from a fraudster claiming to represent the finance company. The caller offered the loan but asked the victim to pay insurance charges, GST, NOC charges, RBI charges, and two advance installments, amounting to Rs 90,000. When the victim did not receive the promised loan and was asked for additional payments, he realized he had fallen victim to a scam.
An official said that an FIR has been registered under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. Investigations are underway.
