Navi Mumbai: A significant fire erupted in a chemical industry located in the Pawane MIDC area on Tuesday morning, spreading to three other nearby industrial units. Firefighting operations have been ongoing, with no reported casualties thus far, according to officials.
The fire originated around 11 am inside the Navbharat chemical industry, officials stated. Surendra Chaudhari, the fire officer at the emergency response station at Thane Belapur Industries Association (TBIA), mentioned that the flames, fueled by the chemicals stored within the industrial unit, extended to neighboring units, including a paper manufacturing company and a laboratory.
Chaudhari highlighted, “The intensity of the fire was significant, with flames extending towards the road. Fortunately, nearby chemical industries remained unaffected, preventing further spread. As of now, there have been no casualties, and firefighting operations are ongoing.”
Efforts to extinguish the flames involve around 12-14 fire engines from various agencies, including MIDCs at Nerul and Rabale, NMMC’s fire stations, CIDCO, among others. Additionally, approximately 12 private water tankers have been mobilized to support the operations.
Due to smoke and intense heat, operations are expected to continue until late Tuesday evening. “Access to the building is challenging due to the prevailing conditions. Firefighters are deployed from both the front and back of the unit, and operations will persist until 8-10 pm,” added an official.
