Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Police announced on Friday that they have initiated legal proceedings against Ketaki Chitale, a Marathi actor, over allegations of causing offense with remarks concerning the utilization of the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act).
Reportedly, during her address at the ‘Brahmin Ekya Parishad’ gathering held in Parli, located in Maharashtra’s Beed district, on February 25, Chitale urged for an examination of cases filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act within the past five years to ascertain their authenticity.
She purportedly advocated for acquiring information through the Right to Information Act, claiming that there is a proliferation of false accusations under the Atrocities Act.
Following the online dissemination of her speech, Premnath Jagatkar, a local resident, filed a complaint at the Parli city police station, as confirmed by a police spokesperson.
On Thursday, a First Information Report was filed against Chitale and the event’s organizer, Bajirao Dharmadhikari, citing sections 295-A (pertaining to causing religious offense) and 505 (2) (relating to statements fostering class animosity) of the Indian Penal Code.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
It’s noteworthy that in 2022, Chitale was subject to arrest for allegedly sharing objectionable content about NCP chief Sharad Pawar on social media. However, she was subsequently granted bail.
