Mumbai: Only a nine days away for the first phase of polling, the BJP and it’s alliance party’s struggling to reach consensus on seat sharing in the crucial state of Maharashtra. However, the alliance got a major boost as Raj Thackeray, founder of Maharashtra Navanirman Sena joined hands with the BJP and support it unconditionally.

Thackeray announced about this while addressing party workers on Gudi Padwa, on Tuesday. He also revealed that he met union Home Minister Amit Shah last month and claimed that he was the first person supported Narendra Modi should become the Prime Minister.

Deputy CM of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis welcomed Thackeray’s move.

The MNS chief said that India need leadership of PM Modi, pointing out that the country has  one of the youngest populations in the world and they need proper education and employment and that “anarchy would spread in the country” if that did not happen and claimed that he extended unconditional support to the alliance led by BJP.

“I don’t have any expectations. When there is a need for a strong leadership in the country, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will back the BJP, Shiv Sena and the NCP unconditionally. It is only for Narendra Modi,” Mr Thackeray said.

It is still not yet clear, whether MNS would field any candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Thackeray asked his cadre to prepare for the Assembly elections later this year, indicating that he is hoping for support and a share of seats when they happen.

Raj Thackeray defended his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that both Maharashtra’s chief minister and Devendra Fadnavis encouraged him.

He hailed union government’s actions like the abrogation of Article 370. He accused his estranged cousin Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut of opportunism in their criticism of Modi after losing power.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde hailed Thackeray’s support, DCM Fadnavis expressed gratitude for MNS’s alliance with BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. Thackeray’s move received mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a significant political shift.
