Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah‘s elder sister, Rajeshwariben, passed away on Sunday at a Mumbai hospital, where she was recovering after a lung transplant procedure. Rajeshwariben, in her sixties, underwent the transplant a few months ago. The last rites were conducted in Ahmedabad at a crematorium in the Thaltej area on Monday, with Amit Shah and other family members in attendance. In light of the tragic loss, Shah canceled two public events scheduled in Gujarat, expressing condolences for his sister’s demise.

Amit Shah was initially set to attend two public events in Gujarat—one at Banas Dairy in Deodar, Banaskantha district, and another at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar. The cancellation of these events was attributed to the demise of Amit Shah’s elder sister. The scheduled activities included the launch of various projects and products of Banas Dairy, with Shah expected to address the public. Ajay Patel, Chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Limited, confirmed Shah’s absence at the Banaskantha event, citing the death of his elder sister as the reason.
