New Delhi: With an intention to be well prepared and avoid any untoward incidents ahead of New Year celebrations, massive mock security drills were conducted across prominent south Delhi malls and shopping complexes..
Police sources revealed to the media that the mock drills were conducted after prior instructions were given to joint commissioners of all police ranges in the city. The operation was carried out under the supervision of special police commissioner (Law and order).
The drive was conducted at several malls, marketplaces and shopping complexes, including DLF Promenade and Ambience Mall in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj.
The larger part of the drive was conducted after 9pm as the crowds for the year-end revelries are expected to swell during the late evening hours, the official said.
“The drills were held to enhance our preparedness ahead of New Year’s Eve to deal with any potential threats,” the official said.
However, some people who were evacuated from these malls expressed their displeasure at the procedure followed during the mock drill. “For nearly 10 minutes, neither the cops nor the mall staff stopped us from walking about and following the action. We actually strolled around until a policeman waved at us and said aap log uss taraf jao. Kis taraf, I wonder,” a Facebook user posted.
