New Delhi: Vijay Mallya, liqour baron and fugitive businessman who is being investigated for fraud and money laundering, has called the public sector banks out for their hypocrisy. In a series of tweets on Tuesday, he hit out at the banks for bailing Jet Airways out, seven years after making his venture, Kingfisher Airlines “fail ruthlessly”.

While he expressed happiness at the fact that “jobs, connectivity and Enterprise” we’re saved, he accused the same PSU banks of showing “double standards under NDA”, after having “let India’s finest airline with the best employees and connectivity fail ruthlessly”.

He also repeated that he had offered to pay off his outstanding loans by placing his liquid assets before the High Court of Karnataka to pay off his various creditors.

“Why do the banks not take my money. It will help them to save Jet Airways if nothing else,” he added in the tweet.
The Kingfisher airline was closed down in 2012 due to financial constraints.

Mallya fled the country in March 2016 after defaulting on a Rs 9,000 crore loan taken for the airline. He has been living in the UK ever since. India had asked for his extradiction in February of 2018. Mallya’s extradition is currently under process as he recently filed an application with the UK High Court, seeking permission to appeal against the extradition order signed by the British Home Secretary.

On Monday, March 25, Jet Airways founders, Naresh Goyal and his wife, resigned from the board of the company.
This paved the way for the immediate mobilization of Rs 1,500 by lenders as a bailout package.
