Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Nadeem Khan, a resident of Aapaganj in Gwalior, fell critically ill after consuming water from a supposedly sealed bottle labeled ‘Bisilleri’. Shortly after drinking from the bottle purchased at Sheetla Dairy, Khan’s health deteriorated rapidly, necessitating urgent hospitalization. Currently, he remains in critical condition under intensive care at Jayarogya Hospital, Gwalior.

Tahir Khan, Nadeem’s brother, highlighted that despite the packaging resembling a popular brand, closer inspection revealed it to be a counterfeit (confusing ‘Bisilleri’ with ‘Bisleri’). The family preserved the bottle as evidence and promptly notified Bahodapur police station. Upon opening the bottle, they detected a foul odor, and Nadeem’s health rapidly declined post-consumption.

Legal and Investigative Actions

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, acknowledging the severity of counterfeit products infiltrating the market. Police have registered a case, aiming to uncover the distribution and sale of fraudulent bottled water posing as established brands.

Understanding Counterfeit Products

Counterfeit products mimic genuine brands through deceptive packaging and naming tactics. Such imitations often employ subtle alterations in spelling or packaging to deceive consumers, underscoring the importance of vigilance in product scrutiny.

Examples of Distinction

  • Real Product: Bisleri
  • Fake Products: Bisilleri, Bislari, Belseri, Bilseri, Brislei, etc.

Vigilance against counterfeit products remains crucial in safeguarding consumer health and trust, urging consumers to scrutinize details beyond superficial similarities.
