In a shocking case of land fraud, Tiruvallur police arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly forging documents and illegally selling property owned by another person.

As per a Daily Thanthi report, the victim, Ramesh Babu (45), a resident of Tiruvallur, owned 51 cents of land in Vedanginallur. During a routine check at the sub-registrar’s office for the encumbrance certificate, he was stunned to discover that the land had been registered under a different name.

Upon further investigation, Ramesh Babu learned that a man named Balakrishnan (32), hailing from Tiruporur, had allegedly used forged documents in 2023 to transfer the property into his name. Balakrishnan then sold the land to a third party for ₹13 lakh.

Outraged by the fraud, Ramesh Babu filed a formal complaint at the office of the Tiruvallur District Superintendent of Police. Police swiftly launched an investigation and arrested Balakrishnan.

He was produced before the Tiruvallur court, which remanded him to judicial custody pending further inquiry.

The case has triggered concerns about the safety of land records and the need for stricter verification mechanisms at registration offices to prevent such fraudulent transactions.
