A man who was filmed urinating at a traffic junction in Pune after getting out of a BMW has been detained, following a viral video that sparked widespread outrage on social media. The incident took place early Saturday morning in the Shastrinagar area of Yerawada, with the video being captured by a shocked eyewitness.
The two men involved, Gaurav Ahuja, the driver, and Bhagyesh Oswal, the co-passenger, were both booked for multiple offenses, including public nuisance, rash driving, and endangering public safety. A case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Ahuja, who had absconded following the incident, was eventually arrested late Saturday night in Karad, Satara district, after police traced his whereabouts. Oswal was apprehended earlier in the evening at his residence. Police also suspect that the two men were intoxicated at the time of the incident, with Oswal being sent for medical testing.
The viral clip shows Oswal in the front seat of the luxury vehicle while Ahuja urinates at the junction. After the act, Ahuja is seen making an obscene gesture towards the person recording the incident before speeding away.
Before his detention, Ahuja posted an apology video on social media, asking for a second chance and promising to surrender within eight hours. Despite his apology, both men now face legal consequences for their actions.
