A wedding celebration in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur turned tragic after a 41-year-old man died when a rasgulla reportedly got stuck in his throat during the feast.
The deceased, identified as Lalit Singh, had attended a wedding ceremony in Maliyanta village on Monday morning.
Sudden breathing difficulty during feast
According to people present at the event, Singh began experiencing severe breathing difficulty shortly after eating the dessert.
Witnesses said he had just consumed a rasgulla, a popular syrupy sweet commonly served at celebrations, when he suddenly appeared to choke.
Guests at the wedding quickly tried to help and attempted to remove the sweet that had become lodged in his throat.
Despite their efforts, they were unable to clear the obstruction.
Declared dead at hospital
Singh’s father rushed him to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for emergency medical treatment.
However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Medical officials later said the rasgulla had completely blocked Singh’s airway, preventing him from breathing.
Doctors warn choking can turn fatal quickly
Doctors explained that when the airway is blocked, oxygen supply to the body stops, which can lead to death within minutes if immediate medical help is not available.
Following the incident, Singh’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
After the procedure was completed, the body was handed over to his family.
