A 60-year-old man, Abrar Ahmed, passed away en route to a hospital in Lucknow after King George Medical University (KGMU) reportedly lacked an available ventilator. Ahmed, who was admitted to KGMU’s emergency center for heart complications, was referred to another facility due to a shortage of ICU ventilator beds, but he succumbed during the transfer.

Ahmed’s family, particularly his son Saif, has alleged negligence, claiming doctors ignored his father’s pleas for a ventilator. Saif also stated that Ahmed began bleeding after being administered multiple injections and accused the medical staff of mistreatment.
KGMU defended its actions, stating Ahmed, diagnosed with coronary artery disease in 2018, had not followed up on regular checkups after undergoing angioplasty. When admitted in critical condition, he was placed on oxygen support while necessary tests were conducted.

However, with no available ventilators, Ahmed was referred to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.
KGMU spokesperson Sudhir Singh emphasized that the patient received immediate attention but reiterated the unavailability of ventilators in the ICU. “All ventilator beds were occupied,” Singh noted, adding that an ambulance and referral letter were promptly arranged for Ahmed’s transfer.

Wazirganj Police have received a complaint from Ahmed’s family but are yet to lodge an FIR. The incident has raised concerns over healthcare infrastructure and ventilator availability in critical cases.
