MADURAI: A tragic accident occurred in Ramanathapuram district on Sunday evening when a mobile phone exploded in a man’s trouser pocket, causing him to lose balance and fall off his bike, resulting in a fatal head injury. The incident happened near Kamuthakudi on the Madurai-Rameswaram National Highway.

Rajini, 36, from Agraharam Street in Paramakudi, and his friend Pandi, 31, from Aathupalam, were returning from Madurai on Rajini’s bike. Pandi was riding pillion when the mobile phone in Rajini’s pocket suddenly exploded with a loud noise, injuring his thigh. The explosion caused Rajini to lose control of the bike, leading to a fall that resulted in a serious head injury. Rajini died on the spot, while Pandi suffered minor injuries and was taken to Paramakudi Government Hospital for treatment.

The incident highlights the potential dangers of carrying electronic devices close to the body. The explosion’s cause is under investigation, with authorities examining the phone for any manufacturing defects or other issues.

Paramakudi Town police have sent Rajini’s body for postmortem and are conducting further inquiries into the incident. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the need for caution and awareness regarding the use and handling of electronic devices.
