KOCHI: In a dramatic protest against alleged poor garbage collection services by Haritha Karma Sena workers, Anoop from Vengola dumped trash inside the Vengola grama panchayat office on Saturday. This unusual protest occurred while the office staff was occupied with Chingam 1 celebrations.

Anoop, who operates a fish stall in Varikkad ward, entered the office around noon and emptied garbage bins into the employees’ cabins. He claimed the Haritha Karma Sena workers’ inadequate response to waste collection prompted his drastic action. The entire incident was recorded on video by Anoop with the help of another individual.

Vengola ward member Rajimol Rajan stated that the incident was filmed to highlight the problem. The panchayat’s president, Shihab Pallikkal, clarified that the dumped garbage was not collected by their Haritha Karma Sena team but was instead a sack from Kollappally, Kottayam, which might have fallen during transportation.

Despite the clarification, the incident disrupted the panchayat’s operations for the day. The authorities have filed a complaint against Anoop and his accomplice, Aneesh, for obstructing official duties and creating a public nuisance. The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further action is expected.
