A 45-year-old man allegedly died due to electrocution from his electric bed at his residence in the Tri Nagar area of northwest Delhi, police said on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Dheeraj Kaushik. According to officials, a PCR call was received at the Keshav Puram police station on February 12, informing them that a man had died after receiving an electric shock.
Electric wiring found connected to bed
Police teams rushed to the house in Tri Nagar, where Kaushik was found lying motionless on an electric bed inside a room. During inspection, officers observed that an electric wire and socket were directly connected to the bed.
Preliminary assessment suggests that the electrocution may have occurred due to a possible electrical fault or unsafe wiring arrangement. A crime team was summoned to conduct a detailed examination of the scene.
The body was later shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Family present, no foul play suspected
Kaushik’s father, Rajendra Kaushik, and other family members were present when police arrived. During initial inquiry, the family informed officers that the deceased was divorced and is survived by a 19-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.
Family members also stated that Kaushik was a habitual drinker and had been consuming alcohol since morning on the day of the incident.
Police said that, prima facie, it appears he died due to electrocution while lying on the bed. No suspicion of foul play has been reported by the family so far.
Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated, and further inquiry is underway.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring safe electrical installations within homes to prevent accidental tragedies.
