In a shocking revelation that mirrors the plot of the Hindi film Drishyam, the Ahmedabad Police have unearthed a gruesome murder nearly a year after it took place. The skeletal remains of Samir Ansari, a 35-year-old mason, were found buried beneath the kitchen floor of his home in the city’s Sarkhej area, allegedly killed by his wife and her paramour.

Chilling discovery in Ahmedabad home

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ajit Rajian, the City Crime Branch exhumed Ansari’s bones and other remains from beneath the cemented kitchen floor on Tuesday night. The murder, police said, was the result of an extramarital affair involving Ansari’s wife, Ruby, and her lover, Imran Vaghela.

“Ansari’s wife Ruby, who is currently absconding, conspired with her paramour Imran and two of his relatives — Rahim and Mohsin — to kill her husband, dismember his body, and bury it beneath the kitchen floor,” said DCP Rajian.

Year-long disappearance solved

The case came to light nearly a year after Ansari’s disappearance. Around three months ago, a crime branch inspector received a tip-off that a man named Samir Ansari had not been seen in the neighbourhood for a long time. Investigators found that no missing person report had ever been filed for him.

“After discreet surveillance and local inquiries, we learnt Ansari had been missing for about a year. During questioning, Vaghela broke down and confessed that he, along with two relatives, had murdered Ansari at Ruby’s behest,” Rajian said.

Vaghela reportedly told police that Ruby planned the murder after repeated domestic quarrels, as Ansari had discovered her affair and allegedly subjected her to physical abuse. Viewing her husband as an obstacle, she allegedly convinced Vaghela to eliminate him.

Gruesome execution and cover-up

The police investigation revealed chilling details of the crime. Imran allegedly slit Ansari’s throat, after which the trio cut the body into pieces and buried them inside the kitchen, concealing the pit with cement and tiles.

“When people enquired about Ansari’s absence, Ruby would claim he had gone to another city for work,” Rajian said. She continued living in the same house for several months before shifting elsewhere with her two children.

The house remained locked until Tuesday night when police, accompanied by an executive magistrate, dug up the kitchen floor and recovered bones and skeletal remains, which have now been sent for forensic and DNA analysis.

Accused absconding, police intensify search

While Imran Vaghela has been arrested, Ruby and the two relatives — Rahim and Mohsin — remain absconding. Police teams have launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend the missing suspects.

“The brutality of the crime and the effort to erase all traces of evidence show premeditation,” the DCP said, adding that further forensic results would confirm Ansari’s identity and help in building a watertight case.

A tragic end to a love marriage

According to police, Samir Ansari, originally from Bihar, moved to Ahmedabad in 2016 after his love marriage with Ruby. The couple lived at Ahmedi Row House near Fatehwadi canal and had two children. Over time, Ruby developed an affair with Vaghela, a local resident, leading to growing tension and repeated arguments in the household.

What began as a marital dispute ended in a calculated killing, police said — a grim reminder of how domestic conflicts and illicit relationships can spiral into violence.
