A Kerala court has convicted a man for abusing his young stepdaughter over an extended period while her mother was absent, sentencing him to a total of 141 years in prison. The victim and the accused are both from Tamil Nadu, with the mistreatment starting in 2017, according to a police officer involved in the case.
The court’s decision, delivered by Judge Ashraf A. M. at the Manjeri Fast Track Special Court on November 29, imposed a 40-year term for the most serious charges. The multiple sentences will be served concurrently. The court also imposed a fine of ₹7.85 lakh on the defendant.
Additionally, the judge ordered that the victim receive compensation for her distress. As the case details indicate, the girl eventually confided in her mother about the situation, who, after seeking advice from a friend, reported the matter to the authorities.
The man was found guilty under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the Juvenile Justice Act. This judgment aims to provide some measure of justice to the young victim, while the convicted individual faces significant consequences for his actions.
