A 29-year-old man lost his life after slipping from a rock at the Peradi Pallam waterfalls area in Marayoor in Kerala’s Idukki district, police said.
The deceased has been identified as S Deepak, son of Shanmughan, a native of Ayirakuzhi in Kottarakkara.
Visit turns tragic
According to police, a five-member group from Kollam had travelled to Kanthalloor on Thursday to visit a friend working at the local panchayat. Later, the group visited the waterfalls along the Peradi Pallam–Ollavayal route.
While the friends were sitting on the rocks and having food, Deepak reportedly climbed down to a lower section of the rocky terrain. When he did not return for some time, two of his friends went down to check on him.
They saw him attempting to climb back up the rock when he suddenly lost his balance and fell.
Rushed to hospital
Deepak was immediately taken to a private hospital in Marayoor. Despite efforts to save him, doctors declared him dead.
Police said further investigation is underway. The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with visiting rocky waterfall areas, particularly during outings where safety precautions may be overlooked.
Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution while exploring such natural spots, especially in hilly regions where slippery rocks and uneven surfaces can pose serious danger.
