Mangalsutra of Love: 93-Year-Old’s Gesture and Jeweller’s Kindness Melt Hearts
In a world often driven by profit and show, a heartwarming story from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, has touched millions. At the center of it: 93-year-old Nivrutti Shinde, his wife Shantabai, and jeweller Nilesh Khivansara, who runs Gopika Jewellers.
The elderly couple, dressed in modest traditional attire, walked into Khivansara’s shop with just ₹1,120 and a few coins, hoping to buy a simple gold-plated mangalsutra. They had been walking on foot to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi, surviving on alms. Their only request was to mark their love and devotion with a token of marriage.
Khivansara, moved by their humility and quiet dignity, refused to let this be a mere transaction. He saw beyond money — he saw love and grace. “They didn’t ask for a discount or bargain. There was no desperation, just respect,” he said.
Recognizing the depth of their bond, the jeweller accepted only ₹20 — ₹10 from each — calling it ashirwad, or blessings. He gifted them the mangalsutra, normally priced around ₹3,000, saying the rest of the transaction was with God.
CCTV footage of the emotional moment has gone viral, showing the couple’s hesitation, sincerity, and the jeweller’s genuine kindness. The video is being shared widely, celebrated as a reminder of humanity, love, and dignity in a transactional world.
