Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has slashed prices across its popular models, passing on the full benefit of the government’s recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rationalisation to customers.
Entry-level cars see biggest drop
The Alto K10, one of the company’s bestsellers, is now cheaper by ₹1,07,600, with its new starting price at ₹3,69,900. Other small cars such as Wagon-R, Swift, Baleno and Dzire have also seen price reductions ranging between ₹70,000 and ₹90,000.
Bigger models also cheaper
Maruti Suzuki’s “luxury” models have not been left out. The Grand Vitara is now priced at ₹10,76,500 — a drop of over ₹1 lakh. The Jimny, XL6 and Invicto have seen cuts between ₹46,000 and ₹61,000.
GST rationalisation background
On 4 September 2025, the GST Council restructured the tax system from four slabs to two — 5% and 18% — while introducing a new 40% slab for luxury goods and tobacco. Under the new definition, “small cars” (under 4 metres, petrol engines below 1,200 cc or diesel below 1,500 cc) fall into the 18% bracket, while bigger cars are taxed at 40%. Electric vehicles continue to attract only 5% GST.
Maruti Suzuki among biggest beneficiaries
Industry experts note that Maruti Suzuki, with its strong small car portfolio, stands to benefit most from this reform. “The restructuring [of GST] will increase competitiveness of Indian products and the opening of trade borders will bring in the necessary competition,” Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava had said earlier.
